He can still really shoot that thing since has shot it exclusively for well over 50 years. Pheasants, quail and chukar partridge mostly. He no longer can get around well enough to hunt, but he WAS an avid bird hunter. My 82 year old dad's shotgun is an old Browning A5 with a plain (no rib) full choked barrel. The gun hasn't doubled again since then, but I'm not sure he's hunted with it since then either. After I convinced him to keep it, I took it to the gunsmith to have it looked over, and the only problem the gunsmith could find was 50 years worth of grime inside the receiver. Thankfully, his 74 year old pride was all that was injured but he was furious and made up his mind to sell the gun.

When he was younger that didn't matter much, but the last time it happened he was standing on the muddy edge of a pond shooting at woodduck dropping down through the trees and the double recoil knocked him down. The B元 was the US version of the European S55 with some savings made in engraving and such. The finish on the wood is mostly gone and the checkering is worn smooth. It's full over full with 30' barrels and has had a very rough life. Good luck, its a tough situation.My dad has a Beretta O/U Golden Snipe from the early 1970s. This Beretta BL-3 is a break-action overunder 20-gauge shotgun with 3-inch chambers. Also, some hopeful hobby gunsmith might think he can rescue a $200 gun through his own efforts, which do not have to pay for themselves. The wood alone, no matter how plain, might be worth $200. If somebody won't pay $200 for it, part it out.

If you can't get the bulge fixed, sell the gun as spares and take the $200 or so and spend it toward another Beretta O/U or hold out for another inexpensive BL-3 or -4. However, it seems like this type of effort would be uneconomical considering a good BL-3 is worth about $500 - no sense throwing good money after bad. Maybe one could just get a 686 forend iron to match the barrel (from Cole's)and adapt the wood. Someone would have to attend to the difference in forend attachment, but that is probably not a big deal for a good smith. Gotta be some 28 inchers around (with choke tubes!) that some skeet shooter cast aside to pursue the 30+ inch trend. Except for ejectors and other updated features, including a different forend attachment, I wonder if a set of 686/687/682 barrels could be made to fit your BL-3 - actually any set of boxlock Beretta O/U bbls, just not the ones with the Kirsten bolt lock-up like the ASE's, which are really a trigger-plate action.
